Item #3: New Age Old: 19th century ideals through a 21st century lens features artists; Dawn Cerny, Shawn Ferris, Thom Heileson, Stephen Hilyard, Tivon Rice, Heather Sheppard, Garrick Uhl, and Ellen Ziegler. To be held at The Sandpoint Gallery from June 4th to June 19th, 2005. In the 19th century debates raged as to the purpose of art. Should the artist strive to present an idealized image capable of transporting its viewer to another time and place, or rather confront the viewer with the less palatable realities of the present? New-Age-Old offers an opportunity for eight artists to reflect on the ideals of the nineteenth century, and reinterpret them using a twenty-first century perspective. An Artist’s Reception and opening celebration will be held on June 3rd, 2005 at 5PM The Sandpoint Gallery Hours: Friday – Sunday: 12 – 5PM The address: Sandpoint Bldg. #5, Bay C, 2nd Fl, 7527 63rd Ave NE.DIRECTIONS: Enter at 74th & Sandpoint Way. Item #4:“OUTSIDE IT, Brian Barks to Me Obsessively” June 3 through July 3 an opening reception will be held on June 3 at OlivoDoce Art Space 7pm • 1203 E Olive St • 206/372.5861. Local cartoonist and painter Brian Sendelbach is set to present his unique brand of art on patrons of Seattle. The evening begins at 7 pm on Friday, June 3 at OlivoDoce, where the artist will be presenting a series of new paintings. While Sendelbach is best-known to Seattle art lovers for his clean-lined “Smell of Steve” comic strips (www.smellofsteve.com), these paintings feature a striking cut-and-paste collage technique that brings out a strangely organized raw energy. Pyramids on Mars, girls fighting dragons, underwater birds, human-animal hybrids … unsure of what it all means, we know we like it. This marks the first one-man exhibit for both Sendelbach and Olivodoce.
